German-American dinner celebrates German heritage

The Jasper DeutscherVerein, the Jasper Partnership Commission and the sister cities of Jasper, Inc. will celebrate German-American Day on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at KlubHaus 61.

Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with the program and dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per person with a cash bar available. The meal will include a German buffet prepared by the Schnitzelbank as well as desserts. To celebrate the arrival of the first group of German immigrants to the United States and the establishment of Germantown, Pennsylvania, Public Law 100-104 designated October 6 as “German-American Day” and a proclamation was issued by President Ronald Reagan on October 2. , 1987. “A day in October shall be proclaimed ‘German-American Day’ in honor of the contributions made by German immigrants to the life and culture of the United States.”

The program and dinner will honor the contributions of German immigrants to the life and culture of the United States.

The annual German Heritage Award will be presented to an individual or group who has generously dedicated their time, talents, or resources to maintaining, enhancing, or strengthening German roots in Dubois County. Sister Cities of Jasper and the Jasper Partnership Commission established the award in 1999. The Jasper DeutscherVerein sponsors the award.

The winner of the lifetime achievement award is Matthias Hilger.
