Chelsea continue their UEFA Women’s Champions League adventure this season with a group stage match against Albanian minnows Vllaznia at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday.
The Blues recorded an excellent 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Matchday 1 and they will be confident of picking up three more points in their second group game against Vllaznia.
Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time reviewed the facts of the match provided by UEFA. Here are three things to note about Chelsea’s encounter with Vllaznia.
Chelsea have never faced Albanian opposition in Europe
Chelsea have never faced an Albanian side in European competition before. The Blues have faced opponents from nine different nations in their six previous European campaigns, but none of those sides were from the Albanian league. Vllaznia have a lot of experience in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, probably more than Chelsea. Les Rouge et Bleu are in their 12th European campaign but have never been further than the round of 16.
Chelsea so strong at Kingsmeadow
Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 10 European games at Kingsmeadow (W7 D3), keeping seven clean sheets in the process. German side VfL Wolfsburg were the last team to defeat the Blues on their home turf in 2018. With Vllaznia’s last opponents facing 33 Real Madrid shots on Matchday 1 without making an effort, Chelsea are set to step into Wednesday’s draw with enormous confidence.
Vllaznia are day off specialists
Vllaznia arrive in south-west London unbeaten in 12 away games in all competitions. Their last away loss came as they lost 1-0 to Italy’s Juventus in the second leg of last season’s competition. Vllaznia have scored 89 goals in their 12-match away unbeaten streak. The Albanian side drew 1-1 in the first leg of the second round against Ukrainian club Zhytlobud-2 Kharkiv last month.
The UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage game between Chelsea and Vllaznia kicks off at 8pm on Wednesday evening.
